The Verstappen exit clause stopped being a rumour and turned into math. Finish outside the top two at the summer break and he can walk, and he is sitting P6 with zero wins in 11 rounds, a four-time champion fighting for scraps in a car that cannot win. I am not dancing on it, he was a monster. But this dynasty is over, and the clause is now the loudest thing in his garage. He triggers it and he is gone from Red Bull by October.

The whole paddock is busy mapping Max Verstappen to Mercedes for 2027. They are missing that Toto Wolff already made his big bet, and it landed. He picked Kimi Antonelli before the kid had even raced in F2, half of them called it reckless, and now Antonelli leads the drivers by 50 points with Mercedes 72 clear in the constructors. Wolff does not need Max. He keeps both Silver Arrows seats exactly as they are for 2027.

The Cubs needed pitching and bought a starter who has thrown nine games and broke his leg. Clay Holmes was excellent, a 2.39 ERA, then a fractured fibula in May wiped out his season, and Chicago gave up a 21-year-old shortstop for the rehab version. They are 64-49 and chasing the Brewers, so I get the urgency, but paying a real prospect for a rehabbing leg is a gamble, not the sure front-line arm a contender wants. It backfires if Holmes is not right by September.

This is how a real contender shops. The Brewers own the best record in baseball at 69-43 and they did not go rent a star, they added Dustin May and his ordinary 4.38 ERA as depth and moved on. No panic, no checkbook flex, just a team that built the thing filling a small hole. Milwaukee earned this lead the hard way and they are treating the deadline like people who plan to be here in October. The Brewers reach the NLCS.
